COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — Collierville Schools is proud to announce that Makenzie Perkins, District Threat Assessment and Counseling Supervisor, has been named a Tennessee Supervisor of the Year Finalist.

Perkins was recognized for her leadership in strengthening student support systems, expanding counseling resources, and helping ensure students feel safe, connected, and supported throughout their educational journey.

Throughout her career, Perkins has been guided by a simple belief: every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and capable of success.

"At the core of my leadership is a deep belief that every student deserves to feel safe, supported, and capable of success, no matter what their story is," Perkins said. "I believe it's our responsibility as educators to create environments where students truly feel that, not just hear it."

In her role, Perkins works closely with school counselors, administrators, students, and families to address student needs, support school safety efforts, strengthen mental health resources, and build systems that help students overcome challenges before they become barriers to success.

Perkins said some of the most meaningful moments of her career have come from supporting students through difficult circumstances and watching them regain confidence, resilience, and hope.

"I believe student success begins with connection," Perkins said. "When students feel safe and supported, they engage more deeply, push through challenges, and begin to believe in themselves. That's why I don't separate academics from well-being because I've seen firsthand that one strengthens the other."

Under Perkins' leadership, Collierville Schools has expanded counseling supports, implemented grief-informed practices, and strengthened systems designed to identify and respond to student needs early.

Perkins believes every decision made on behalf of students should be rooted in a simple question: Does this help students feel safer, more supported, and more capable of success? That philosophy has guided her work as she collaborates with educators, families, and community partners to ensure students have the resources they need to thrive.

"Makenzie cares deeply about students and works tirelessly to make sure they feel supported, connected, and valued," said Dr. Russell Dyer, Director of Schools for Collierville Schools. "Her impact can be seen in the lives of students, families, and staff across our district. We are proud of Makenzie and grateful for the difference she makes every day."

The Tennessee Supervisor of the Year program recognizes educational leaders who demonstrate excellence in leadership, service, and advocacy on behalf of Tennessee students.
