TDOE Releases School Letter Grades
COLLIERVILLE, Tennessee (December 21, 2023) – Today, the Tennessee Department of Education released 2022-23 School Letter Grades, a metric mandated by Tennessee law. Bailey Station Elementary, Collierville Elementary, Crosswind Elementary, Schilling Farms Elementary, Sycamore Elementary, Tara Oaks Elementary, West Collierville Middle, and Collierville High all received an A, while Collierville Middle received a B. The letter grades are determined by a formula that includes several factors, including student achievement, academic growth, growth of the highest need students, and a measure of college and career readiness for high schools only.
The law to assign single letter grades passed in 2016; however, it was not previously implemented due to a variety of reasons, including online assessment challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic. Newly-appointed Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds announced at the beginning of this academic year that the department was changing the manner in which the originally proposed formula was calculated. The department has published multiple documents that explain the revised formula, which was released in November.
“We are very proud of the hard work and dedication of our educators who are committed to providing exemplary educational opportunities for our students each and every day,” said Director of Schools Dr. Gary Lilly. “We encourage parents to dive deeper into each of the metrics that contribute to the single letter grade, which better reflect the nuances of their child’s academic performance.”
